(Las Vegas) — Clark County School District’s Virtual High School and Academy for Individualized Study announced the launch of the “Laptops for Learning Holiday Drive,” a campaign designed to give economically challenged, potential Virtual High School and AIS students from across Clark County free computers to take online classes.

The drive will run from now until Dec. 31, 2013. The school will accept computers in good working condition. Donations will be refurbished and wiped clean by the data professionals at U.S. Micro Corp. Donations can be dropped off at the Virtual High School and AIS campus, 3050 E. Flamingo Road at McLeod Drive. The main contact during drop off is Darlin Delgado.

“We are very happy to be able to give students in need free computers and a chance to participate in our online learning programs,” said Jesse Welsh, academic manager, Innovative Learning Environments. “We have wonderful programs that give high school students a convenient option to obtain their diplomas. Whether they just like the flexibility of online classes, may be unable to attend more traditional classes, or travel due to sports programs or their career, they can turn to online learning to meet their high school educational goals. Not everyone has access to a computer or even an internet connection, so we are pleased to work with the community to change this reality for local kids in need.”

Courses are offered on a full- and part-time basis and are designed to meet the needs of students seeking opportunities for honors and advanced placement courses, those seeking the flexibility of schedule offered by online classes, better one-on-one student-teacher feedback, or those facing challenges that make attending a traditional brick-and-mortar school difficult.

Clark County School District’s Academy for Individualized Study High School made the transition to online courses for the 2013-14 school year and offers students an alternative online learning experience where course work is completed at their own pace.
