Family, Fur & Fun Festival is Saturday

Family, Fur & Fun Festival, the free event provides the needed information about better understanding and appreciating animals.WHAT:

Halloween Pet Costume Contest & Safety, Dog Agility Demos & Races at the Family, Fur & Fun Festival at Mountain’s Edge.

Free event promotes animal rescue, shelter, adoption and human education.

WHY:

With the economic downturn and Southern Nevada’s high foreclosure rate, there are more abandoned pets – from dogs and cats to birds and fish. As a result, there is an increased need for humane education about animals and rescuing, adopting and fostering abandoned pets.

Enter the Family, Fur & Fun Festival on Saturday, Oct. 19. The free event provides the needed information and resources about better understanding and appreciating animals and their needs in a fun environment for the entire family and well-behaved, leashed pets.

Activities include: naming new shelter animals, small and medium dog races, pet costume contest, dog agility demonstrations, $5 Good Canine Citizen testing, free nail trimming, pet adoption, special $25 pet portraits, raffle and information about Halloween pet safety, incorporating pets into families, pet planning for home fires or floods, and proper pet care for all stages of life.

The nonprofit Barks 4 Blanket organization will be collecting items for dogs in local animal shelters, rescue and fostering groups.

Event proceeds from contest and race entries, raffle and pet portraits benefit local animal rescue and shelter programs.

1:30 p.m. – Halloween Pet Costume Contest begins. Categories include: Best in Show, Funniest Costume, Cutest Costume and Best Family (can include pet owners and/or multiple pets).
