LAS VEGAS – Nevada Health CO-OP, a Nevada-based not-for-profit health insurance alternative created under the Affordable Care Act, announced today the organization has reached several major milestones in its efforts to provide access to quality health care and affordable insurance plans in the Silver State.
The Nevada Health CO-OP is now positioned to begin selling health insurance plans within the state of Nevada when Open Enrollment begins on October 1. The not-for-profit has completed the steps of Division of Insurance HMO licensing that will allow it to also develop POS, HMO and alternative plan designs.
In addition, Nevada Health CO-OP has started the process of obtaining accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide-range of health care organizations. It also recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance. NCQA is committed to providing health care quality information for consumers, purchasers, health care providers and researchers.
“Seeking recognition and certification from the NCQA is an important step in demonstrating Nevada Health CO-OP’s commitment to meeting the highest standards in the health care industry,” said Nevada Health CO-OP CEO, Tom Zumtobel. “We want our members to know we are dedicated to providing access to the best health care in the state of Nevada with plans that are created by and for Nevadans.”
The CO-OP will offer a range of not-for-profit health plans to individuals, families and small employers on the Nevada Health Link, Nevada’s health insurance exchange, late this year. It will also offer new health care coverage options to groups off the exchange, focusing on plans that serve the needs of Nevada families and Nevada businesses.
The Nevada Health CO-OP is accepting reservations for the first 30,000 members, leading to Open Enrollment in October 2013. To learn more or to reserve a spot, visit the CO-OP at www.NevadaHealthCOOP.org.
