Mike Hix: First Independent Bank

Meet Mike Hix: Senior Vice President, First Independent BankSenior Vice President
Reno, Sparks, Carson City & Fallon

How did you first get into your profession?
I actually started out in banking over 32 years ago as a collector, which included sometimes having to repossess cars. It helped to teach me how to deal with folks in very difficult situations and gave me an excellent behind the scenes view of the credit world. From there it was on to the credit and branch operational sides of banking while continuing my formal education.

If you could be another person for a day, who would you be? Why?
The finance geek in me would pick Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke. A day would be just enough time to experience the power and some of the knowledge associated with the position without the long-term stress.

What is the bet perk of your career?
The interpersonal relationships gained and the ability to learn not only the banking industry but to get information from our customers on a great many industries and businesses.
